Pembe Hayat (Pink Life) LGBTI+ Solidarity Association
Pembe Hayat LGBTI+ Solidarity Association, the first trans association in Turkey, is a trans self-organization founded on 30 June 2006 in Ankara. Pembe Hayat produces projects and provides direct support services on issues such as discrimination, hate crimes, violence, and social exclusion against LGBTI+ people –primarily trans people–, does advocacy activities in the national and international realms, and carries out activities in the field of fundamental human rights based on the principles of non-discrimination and equality. The organization is open to cooperation and experience sharing with other NGOs in the fields of LGBTI+ rights, especially trans rights, struggle of sex workers, sex workers’ rights, sexual health, family, coming out process, gender affirmation process, gender identity- and sexual orientation-based violence and discrimination, education, academia, working life, military service, prison, law, media, queer culture and arts studies and festival organization.
Pembe Hayat provides psychosocial, psychological, and legal support (via phone, e-mail and/or face-to-face) to people who apply to Pembe Hayat and identify themselves as trans and/or LGBI+ on issues such as family, coming out, gender affirmation, gender identity- and sexual orientation-based violence and discrimination, education, academia, working life, military service, prison, law, media, sexual health, and mental health.
Moreover, with the Dilek İnce Clothing Bank organized by the association, Pembe Hayat gives clothing support to LGBTI+ people in prisons and/or LGBTI+ persons in needs, and it provides academic resources and consultancy by the Ali Aligül Arıkan Library and thanks to the association’s knowledge on LGBTI+ rights.
