The Civil Society in the Penal System Association (CİSST) works to bring prison conditions in Turkey into line with international human rights standards, and to protect the rights and freedoms of prisoners so that these rights and freedoms are consistent with human dignity and universal values.
CİSST’s approach to prisoners’ rights is grounded in binding and non-binding international standards, declarations, conventions, and treaties — foremost among them the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as the European Prison Rules, the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners, the Basic Principles for the Treatment of Prisoners, and the United Nations Convention against Torture.
