Founded in 2015 by Dicle Association for the Visually Impaired, GAP Association for the Physically Disabled, SSPE Solidarity Association, Silvan Association for the Disabled, and Van Association for a Barrier-Free Life, the Federation is a rights-based civil society organisation established to embed a democratic civil society understanding, to strengthen and develop civil society activities, to ensure coordinated service delivery among its member associations working in this field, and to empower and foster collaborative work among individuals, groups, institutions, and organisations working in the disability field.
Based in Diyarbakır, the Federation currently carries out its activities through thirteen member associations working in Diyarbakır, Batman, Erzurum, Şanlıurfa, Şırnak, and Antalya.
The Federation is also a member of the Confederation of the Disabled and the Network for the Rights of Children with Disabilities.
Established in 2020, the Legal Counselling Unit on Disability Rights is open to applications from those who have experienced grievances in this area seeking support.
The Federation is open to collaboration and experience-sharing with CSOs wishing to draw attention to the multiple forms of discrimination faced by women, children, young people, elderly people, and impoverished people with disabilities, and to carry out joint rights-based work in this direction, with a view to building a pluralistic civil society dialogue.
