The Van Branch of the Human Rights Association, active since 1986, was founded on 13.10.1999. Working against all forms of discrimination based on race, ethnicity, language, religion and sect, religious belief and conviction, colour, sex, sexual orientation and gender identity, political and philosophical opinion, disability, and similar grounds, the association combats hate speech and hate crimes.
It opposes the death penalty under all circumstances and everywhere in the world. It opposes torture everywhere and under all circumstances, regardless of who it is inflicted upon. It defends the right to a fair trial and to defence, for everyone, everywhere, and under all circumstances. It is opposed to war and militarism at all times and under all circumstances, and defends the right to peace. It defends freedom of expression unconditionally and without limit. It defends the freedom of organisation. It defends the right to resist oppression and tyranny. It defends everyone’s right to education and instruction in their mother tongue, as well as the right to give and receive public services in one’s mother tongue.
Essentially, anyone who has suffered any violation of the rights that bind humanity may apply for support.
Grounded in human rights, the association is open to all forms of collaboration and experience-sharing with other civil society organisations on issues frequently encountered in our region, within the context of all forms of violence against women, rights violations occurring at the border, children’s rights, and refugee rights.
