Setting out in 2011 under the rainbow with a vision of a just, equal, and free world, the Social Policies, Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation Studies Association (SPoD) aims to contribute to the development of the social policies necessary for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex, and beyond (LGBTİ+) people in Turkey to live a life in which they do not feel oppressed on account of their gender identity and sexual orientation.
Alongside its advocacy work towards this aim, SPoD seeks to develop service models for LGBTİ+ communities that can serve as examples for public institutions, to eliminate all forms of discrimination within them, and, in the long term, to deliver services tailored to LGBTİ+ people through public and private sector partnerships.
SPoD provides legal, social, and psychological counselling to LGBTİ+ people, carries out campaign case monitoring, delivers training to mental health professionals, lawyers, institutions, and municipalities, conducts academic research, organises seminars, panels, schools of politics and activism, and election campaigns, forms support groups, and holds advocacy meetings.
SPoD carries out this work through its professional staff, volunteers, and expert networks.
