What is Solidarity for Equality?
Solidarity for Equality Association is a civil society organisation founded in Istanbul in June 2022, aiming to contribute to individuals and different social groups living together in a society free of discrimination and violence, where resources are distributed fairly.
Why did we come together?
As a group of people who have long worked in civil society, we saw that, in this period of deepening poverty and compounding crises, women and children — who are forced to experience inequality more acutely — face gaps in accessing their rights and services. We came together to support civil society organisations, in particular, in continuing their work in a rights-based, high-quality, and sustainable manner, and to contribute to the empowerment of the women and children they reach and to their access to support mechanisms.
So what do we do?
We work in solidarity with rights-holders and civil society organisations across Turkey to strengthen equal access to rights and services for disadvantaged individuals and groups, women and children foremost among them. We provide institutional support to develop the capacities of civil society organisations in the fields of human rights, children’s rights, and women’s human rights. Our areas of activity take shape around the principles of nonviolence, inclusiveness, and participation, and in line with the needs we observe in the field or that reach us from those working there.
How do we do it?
- We develop and implement sustainable, needs-based projects and models to empower disadvantaged women and children and those working with them in civil society.
- We develop and implement programmes, mechanisms, and materials together with civil society organisations and field workers to support their capacity in the areas of women’s rights and children’s rights.
- We conduct research and produce publications aimed at supporting policy and service development in the fields of women’s rights and children’s rights.
