Federation of Associations for Barrier Free Living
The Federation of Associations for Barrier Free Living was founded as a rights-based CSO in 2015 with the aim of contributing to the establishment of a democratic civil society culture, promoting the development of civil society activities, and ensuring more coordinated service provision by member associations working in this field. The federation is further engaged in strengthening and cooperating with individuals, groups, institutions and organizations working in the field of disabilities. The founding constituents of the federation are the Dicle Association of Visually Impaired People, the GAP Association of People with Physically Disabilities, the SSPE Solidarity Association, the Silvan Association of People with Disabilities and the Van Association for Barrier-Free Living.
The Federation is headquartered in Diyarbakır and operates with 13 associations from Diyarbakır, Batman, Erzurum, Şanlıurfa, Şırnak and Antalya:
- Dicle Association of Visually Impaired People
- Association for Solidarity, Assistance, Life Support for People with Diseases Occuring After Measles-Infection and SSPE Disease and Their Relatives
- Hınıs Association of People with Disabilities
- Diyarbakır Association of People with Physical Disabilities
- GAP Association of People with Disabilities
- Cizre Association for the Protection of and Solidarity with People with Disabilities
- Batman Association of Active People with Disabilities
- Diyarbakır Deaf Rights, Education, Culture, and Sports Club Association
- Diyarbakır Sports Club of the Visually Impaired Association
- SSPE Solidarity Association
- Silvan Association of People with Disabilities
- Counselling Association for Individuals with Special Needs
- Association for the Protection of the Rights of Dialysis Patients
The Federation is also a member of the Confederation of People with Disabilities and the Network for the Rights of Children with Disabilities.
Anyone experiencing disadvantages in this respect can apply to the Legal Counselling Unit for Disability Rights, which was established in 2020, to receive support.
The Federation is open to cooperation and experience sharing with CSOs that want to draw attention to the multiple forms of discrimination experienced by people with disabilities who are also women, children, underage, elderly and poor and to conduct rights-based joint work in this direction, thereby contributing to a multi-voiced dialogue in civil society.
